Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MetLife) reported a data security breach to the California Office of the Attorney General. On July 24, 2020, MetLife inadvertently sent an email containing a report with recipients' names, Social Security numbers, and premium refund information to a benefits department at an unrelated company. The recipient's employer and a consultant deleted the data and notified MetLife on July 27, 2020. MetLife offered one year of free credit monitoring via TransUnion to affected individuals.
