On December 28, 2015, an unauthorized party exploited a security flaw in the University of California, Berkeley's financial system, gaining access to personal information including names, Social Security numbers, and bank account numbers. The university detected the incident on December 29, 2015, contained the breach by removing affected servers, and notified the FBI. Affected individuals were offered one year of credit monitoring and identity restoration services.
