Metropolitan Community College of Kansas City experienced a ransomware attack on March 10, 2020, resulting in data encryption. A forensic investigation determined that an unauthorized party may have accessed sensitive data, including names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, medical information, and bank account information of students and employees. No evidence of data extraction or misuse was found. The college engaged third-party forensics, implemented additional security safeguards, and offered one year of credit monitoring to affected individuals.
