Marian Regional Medical Center (Santa Maria and Arroyo Grande Campuses) notified patients that a secured electronic file containing limited patient information was mistakenly sent to a contracted health insurance plan other than the patient's own between March 2 and March 6, 2014. The file included names, addresses, insurance types, dates of birth, dates of service, and lab test results. Social security numbers were not included. The insurance plan verified the error and notified the hospital, which stopped the transmissions. The hospital believes the information was not used for fraudulent purposes.
