On November 2, 2021, Elizabethtown College discovered that between February 2019 and November 2021, five files containing names, Social Security numbers, and/or addresses were inadvertently saved in a shared folder accessible to users on the College's network. The College immediately secured the files and launched an investigation with an outside firm. While there is no evidence that the information was accessed or stolen, the College notified the 6 affected Maine residents out of an abundance of caution on December 2, 2021, and offered them 12 months of identity theft protection services through Experian.
