The breach, which occurred and was discovered on April 30, 2022, was described as an external system breach (hacking). The compromised information includes names or other personal identifiers in combination with financial account numbers or credit/debit card numbers along with their security codes, access codes, passwords, or PINs. Affected individuals were notified on May 27, 2022, and offered 12 months of identity theft protection services through Equifax.
