Escondido Union High School District experienced a malware incident between November 3-5, 2023, discovered on November 6, 2023. The malware prevented access to certain files (encryption). An unauthorized actor accessed systems containing information on employees, dependents, and students. No evidence of misuse was found. The district secured systems, notified law enforcement, and offered 12 months of credit monitoring.

San Dieguito Union High School District disclosed that a former student sent a mass email to the student body containing an attachment with student names, directory information, and email account usernames and passwords. The incident was discovered on April 12, 2021. The district launched an internal investigation, notified students to change credentials, and implemented additional security safeguards. No Social Security numbers were exposed.

San Dieguito Union High School District experienced unauthorized access to its Aeries Student Information System database from April 2019 to January 2020. The incident was discovered on January 28, 2020. The breach involved a third-party service provider, Aeries Software, Inc. Personal information including names, addresses, and potentially educational records was present in the affected database. The district and Aeries engaged forensic experts, secured the database, and are cooperating with the FBI. Two U.S. individuals are suspected of causing the incident.

The district launched a forensic investigation and confirmed that personal information was present in the affected accounts, though it could not determine if the data was actually accessed. Affected individuals were offered 12 months of identity monitoring services through Kroll.
