A workstation in the State of South Carolina Budget and Control Board Employee Insurance Program's finance department was infected with malware that recorded keystrokes and captured screenshots, affecting 5,596 individuals. The breach, reported to HHS on January 14, 2011, involved names, addresses, dates of birth, benefits identification numbers, social security numbers, and some banking information. In response, the entity disconnected the workstation, issued new credentials, updated security policies, and implemented enhanced network monitoring.
