Guilmartin, DiPiro & Sokolowski, LLC (GDS), an accounting firm, experienced a data breach after a tax-preparation software partner alerted GDS to a fraudulent tax return filed using GDS' account info. GDS discovered the incident on Oct 17, 2016. Forensics confirmed unauthorized access to a server and exfiltration of PII (names, SSNs, addresses, wage info, bank account info) for 14 NH residents. Notifications were mailed Dec 1-6, 2016. GDS engaged forensic investigators, a cybersecurity firm for risk assessment, and offered 24 months of credit monitoring via Kroll. FBI and IRS were notified.
