Illuminate Education, Inc. notified Victor Valley Union High School District of a data security incident where unauthorized access occurred between December 28, 2021, and January 8, 2022. The attacker obtained student data including names, academic records, behavior information, enrollment details, and special education/disability codes. No SSNs or financial data were involved. Illuminate took systems offline and engaged Kroll for credit monitoring services for affected individuals over 18.

Victor Valley Union High School District experienced a ransomware incident on February 26, 2021, where malware encrypted data on district computer systems. The investigation determined that an unauthorized party accessed employee data, including names and Social Security numbers. The district contained the malware, restored data, engaged a cybersecurity firm, updated passwords, and implemented additional security safeguards. Affected employees were offered one year of complimentary identity protection services.
