Victor Valley Union High School District experienced a ransomware incident on February 26, 2021, where malware encrypted data on district computer systems. The investigation determined that an unauthorized party accessed employee data, including names and Social Security numbers. The district contained the malware, restored data, engaged a cybersecurity firm, updated passwords, and implemented additional security safeguards. Affected employees were offered one year of complimentary identity protection services.
