Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) notified the New Hampshire Attorney General of a data security incident where an unauthorized person accessed employee email accounts between April 3 and May 5, 2020. BDS discovered the breach on September 13, 2020, engaged forensic investigators, and secured the accounts. Two New Hampshire residents were identified as potentially affected, with their names, addresses, and Social Security numbers potentially accessible. BDS mailed notifications on December 10, 2020, and provided one year of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection through Kroll. Remediation included enhanced authentication for remote email access and staff re-education.
