Los Angeles City Employees' Retirement System

Los Angeles City Employees Retirement System (LACERS) disclosed that on April 5, 2017, an email attachment containing personally identifiable information was inadvertently sent to an unauthorized individual. The attachment included member social security numbers, names, addresses, and date of death information. The error was discovered the same day, and the recipient was instructed to delete the email. LACERS analyzed its processes and improved procedures for handling PII to prevent future incidents. The organization stated the incident did not pose a true risk of identity theft.
