Living Beyond Breast Cancer notified California residents of a data breach involving their name and breast cancer diagnosis. The incident resulted from a ransomware attack on third-party vendor Blackbaud in May 2020. Blackbaud discovered the attack on July 16, 2020, and reported that backup files containing client data were exfiltrated and encrypted. Blackbaud paid a ransom and confirmed the files were destroyed. Living Beyond Breast Cancer determined on August 18, 2020, that their clients' data was involved. No evidence of misuse was found.
