American Express notified customers that their card account numbers, names, and expiration dates were recovered during a law enforcement investigation. The company states that Social Security numbers were not impacted and no unauthorized activity was detected. Additional fraud monitoring was placed on affected cards, and customers were advised to review statements and contact the company if suspicious activity is found.

A merchant that processed American Express card payments experienced unauthorized access to its data files. Affected data included cardmember account numbers, names, and card expiration dates. Social Security numbers were not impacted. American Express placed additional fraud monitoring on affected cards and notified impacted cardmembers. The breach date was reported as May 21, 2012.

American Express notified the California AG that cardmember information, including account numbers, names, expiration dates, and Social Security numbers, was recovered during a law enforcement and/or American Express investigation. No unauthorized activity was detected. American Express placed additional fraud monitoring on affected cards and offered one year of complimentary Experian ProtectMyID Elite identity protection services.
